You're Cancelled

Next stop, Prague! This was my first trip since being in London and I was SO EXCITED to start to go on short holidays to explore the rest of Europe. Myself, Renee, Max, Sam, Michele, Ryan, Charlie, and Jess woke up at 5 am and we were on our way to Gatwick Airport. L number one came pretty soon when we accidentally paid 300 pounds for an Uber. This was a huge bummer and a mistake we are sure to never make again. Despite this small L we weren’t gonna let this bring our moods down. When we arrive in Prague we meet a lovely Czech man who helped us take Prague’s public transportation. 1 hour after landing we arrived in our Hostel, Sophie’s Hostel and our trip has finally started.

Our first stop was food, we were starving and craving some Czech food. We searched a nice place that wasn’t too far away and it gave us an opportunity to go out and explore. Shortly after we left the hostel was L number 2. The first thing we see when walking through a park was a man generously feeding the pigeons. If you wanna know what he was feeding them, just ask one of us.

My first impressions of Prague was that the city was absolutely stunning. All the building were so colorful and intricate, it felt like I wasn’t even in a real city that people live in. Our lunch was delicious and I even tried a Pilsner and didn’t hate it too much.

During this time we met up with Ryan’s friend, a Prague native for a few years, and he took us on a little tour of the rest of Prague. We walked through narrow streets and were able to see all the tourist spots. We also had an opportunity to watch the Prague clock when it was on the hour. This was pretty interesting and funny to watch because it was just little puppets creeping out a window. One of my favorite parts of this night was getting the signature ice cream in a churro cone. This isn’t what it’s actually called but you can picture it.

That night, we met up with Ryan’s friend again at a little bar. This bar was pretty cool because it had multiple rooms and you kept going deeper and deeper in it. Then, we went to Roxy, one of Prague’s most famous clubs. We saw Matoma who is a DJ that has a few famous songs. This club was cool and it was funny because the first person I talked to was from Harrisburg, PA, not too far from where I live.

The next day, we went out again to sight see and we decided to take a life to see a beautiful overlook of the city. Here we took a ton of pictures and just had a great time being together. We were all very excited for our night because we had an upcoming pub crawl and the drink of choice was Absinthe. We arrived to check in at the pub crawl and there was a literal storm of people. This sight at first discouraged us because we thought we weren’t going to have fun. Oh, but were we proven wrong.

If you ever want a great night with some great friends all you need is: Absinthe shots + Vodka Cran shots + Guys from Wales + a very drunk Charlie

It’s day 3 now. We’re sad because it’s everyone’s last day aside from Max & Renee. Or so we thought. On this last day we decided to head up to Prague castle and explore this area because it snowed. The city was all dressed in white and although it was very beautiful it was also very cold, slippery, and icy. Renee and I even had to stop at CCC to get a new pair of boots because our sneakers couldn’t handle the cold. We walk around do more sightseeing and we make our way back to the hostel to head to the airport.

We’re just about to leave and I check my phone. When I look at the status of our flight I see the one thing I didn’t wanna see this trip. The word CANCELLED. L number three is here and hit us hard. This was definitely one of the most stressful experiences I’ve had because we had class the next day and also I’m in a foreign country! It did all work out though and we were given a little bonus of staying an extra day.

All in all, Prague was amazing. We had our L’s but they equaled out with our W’s which consisted of visiting a new and beautiful city, creating a stronger bond with my fellow study abroad students, and of course, Absinthe.

Stay tuned for my blog about Geneva, Switzerland, cheers!
